I m so sad to see this series ending These characters have faced so much tragedy and to come out on the other side able to love and trust again has brought me to tears EVERY single time Freya Barker has amazed and awed me with her written words I ve never been one to want to dive head first into a story that I know will make me ache in pain for the lives of fictional characters, but that is just what this author does to me Part of that reason is knowing she will provide them someone who will love them unconditionally and bring them into the fold of a family not born of blood but shared experiences and are as strong, if not stronger This series really is a must read ARC provided by NetGalley.

I remember the first book of Freya Barker s that I read I went in to it wondering if I d like it, hoping that I would and worrying that, gods forbid I didn t, how could I tell her, someone that I knew and really liked, that I just couldn t take to it well, the worst never happened, the story was excellent and that concern turned out to be so far from an issue that I d actually completely forgotten my worry until I was recently looking over some of my reviews of Ms Barker s previous books. Ok, I ll stop digressing and actually move on to what I want to say Still Air was an absobloodylutely fantastic read let s face it, that s pretty much a given when it comes to this series The one thing you can always be sure of with Freya s writing is that it will pull on ALL of your emotions it s expressive, meaningful, sarcastic, so very true to life, real, hard hitting and heartbreaking at times and, as is the case with this series especially, the story is at points raw, painful and occasionally fugly BUT is is also sweet, hopeful, uplifting, humorous and heart warming, her characters shows the true beauty and importance of friends and family of choice and not just of blood hell, at times often in spite of blood and that now and again we have to wade our way through the seemingly never ending crap continually thrown our way to get to the HEA that, in our darker moments, seems just that little bit or possibly too far out of reach I FLOVED Still Air just in case you didn t get that vibe already What a way to end the series We saw a very different side to Pam than we had previously where before she was the strong, resilient, confident woman this time, in her own story, we found that Pam had so many layers, had dealt and was still dealing with so much heartache and she suffered from as many, if not , feelings and insecurities than the people that she took care of and supported Afraid to open herself to anyone because she didn t feel deserving of love, care and a happy future, she kept everyone at arms length, especially Dino until things happen and she can no longer avoid him Throughout the other books in the series, Dino has been the voice of reason, the strong one who could see and read about people than they were comfortable with but lately he hasn t had the easiest of times himself, between his wife and all of her issues, his responsibilities to his kids and his feelings of having let his kids down and everything that happens in this book, it doesn t seem like he has time or should be looking for anything for himself until he gets close to Pam and they find out that they hit it off than either of them expected If you haven t checked out the Portland, ME series, or for that matter, any of Freya s other books you are sorely missing out I rate this fabulous read 5 but if I could, I d mark it way, way higher as five stars don t truly tell how good this book is

This is the fourth and final book in the Portland ME series All books can be read as standalones but I have to ask WHY Why the hell would you not want to read them all Each book in the series is fairly heavy in storyline but each one has everything else you would expect from a Freya Barker book too If you ve yet to read any of her books then you have really been missing out Freya writes about real people, whether it be flaws, weakness or illness, just like the majority of us She adds a good healthy, panty melting dose of alpha in there too.Every book she has written so far has had the ability to grip me from the start Still Air was no different, infact it was an amazingly bloody brilliant way in which to finish the series Still Air is Pam and Dino s story Throughtout the previous Portland ME books they have both been secondary characters and I for one have been freaking well dying to read their stories.Pam is the owner of Florence House, a women s refuge She had dedicated her life to helping others Her dedication and protectiveness has been unwavering and inspiring, while underneath she has been hiding her own private hell, a past that is shatteringly sad She s always been the one to help others, keeping herself closed off but now life is finally becoming too much for her During Still Air she comes to realise that she doesn t have to face her demons by herself, that her group of friends have infact become her family and they want to be there for her like she has been for them over the years,.Dino, always having been a private person has been dealing with huge family problems but somehow, without noticing has become detached from his kids It isn t until his son, Jonas almost hits rock bottom that he realises that now is the time to seek help Pam and Dino have spoken but have maintained distance, just tolerating each other up until this point but Pam is the one who helps Jonas During this time they both gradually come to realise that maybe what seemed to be dislike was actaully masking something else I m not going to give any other hints or spoilers as it really deserves and needs to be read first hand I loved the fact that this didn t follow the normal storyline process, like the majority of books. There was plenty of agnst infact be sure you have a tissue supply at the ready , lots of heartwarming heartmelting moments and stomach dropping parts but there is also laughter, love and some pretty hot sex I read ALOT but there are very few authors that have the ability to be able to completely draw me in to every single one of their books The emotions being written about become part of you, you feel those emotions with each and every character That can only happen when the author is truly talented and can pour herself into each book.

This has been such a memorable series and I m sorry to see it come to an end.Whilst the stories in the series are graphic reminders of the brutalities of everyday life for some women, and children, they go some way to offer hope and a future without pain and suffering All of the women we have met so far have an emotional tale to tell but Pam has always been there to help them to safety and to turn their lives around, but who can help Pam when the tables are turned and she is the one suffering in silence Dino, that s who I ve had a soft spot for Dino throughout this series His quiet strength towards the women taken into his kitchen at The Skipper has been endearing Now he s the one experiencing problems in his home life as his ex wife, and drug addict, starts to turn things upside down for him and his children and he knows that there is only one person who can help him when his son gets in with a gang and finds himself in a dangerous situation.Pam and Dino have always had a rambunctious relationship but as we read their story it s clearly a love hate relationship but it s not until they turn to each other for support that their eyes are opened towards their true feelings for one another Whilst this series has been a solid 5 stars for me, I didn t feel the same connection with this story Whilst I love Dino and Pam, their relationship didn t pull me in as hard as the others It s something that I can t put my finger on but for some reason but Pam didn t seem right for Dino, despite the support they afforded each other Whilst I did love the way Pam openly took Dino s children into her heart, her bond with Dino felt distant in some way Even their sexual encounters felt a little uncomfortable in a way that felt like a brother sister hooking up As always though, the author has written this story from her heart and you can feel the depth of emotion as the pages turn Pam s story was heart wrenching and Dino s problems with his children all too familiar I will certainly treasure this series and the overall feeling of hopefulness it portrayed.

is the book I have been waiting for Pam has been such a strong secondary character throughout the entire series She is strong and fierce, protecting those who she takes under her wing Putting her heart and soul into the Florence House and its occupants Determined to help each woman who enters the doors find their way back to loving themselves and finding what they deserve out of life I always felt that there was so much Pam was keeping hidden under the surface Boy was I rightDino always keeps to himself, just showing up at the Skipper to do his job then goes home to his family He doesn t normally share to much with anyone, unless he is giving his advice on the situation, which he has done his fair share It is like if you step into his kitchen, be prepared to be set straight when you need a little shove in the right direction Unfortunately the tables have turned this time around and it is Dino that finds himself needing that little shove This big bear of a man loves with every fiber of his being His children truly come first in his mind but it would seem that work and life have sort of taken priority in the last little while Suddenly Dino finds himself not so connected with his family and life at home With this new light on the situation he is determined to fix that, he just hopes that it is not too late to get that connection back with Jonas and Gina.As the story unfold, we find Pam once again trying to help and lead those in the right direction This time it is Dino s son Jonas that we find her attention on The she interacts with Jonas though the we begin to understand Pam s story and how she found herself so focused on seeing the right things, being there when she is needed the most, not letting opportunity pass you by as there might not be a second chance to make a difference This time sharing her true experience is what Pam uses to help get her point across and bring new light into a potentially dark situation. When Pam is hurting and tries to handle things on her own, she finds herself in a completely new place Surrounded by family of friends who are determined to stand by her side and help her though this time Be her strength for a chance Give back to her what they have all received in spades It is very difficult for Pam to let them take care of the situation and just let the emotions take over She hasn t done that in a very long time.Freya, you have completely blow me away With each book that I read, the deep raw emotions that I feel from your characters just gets stronger and stronger One minute you have me giggling at the cute little antics and the next I can hardly read the pages as the tears are streaming down my face You have made me feel like I was a member of the Florence house who was watching my best friend struggle and want to do everything I can to help her To give her back everything she has given to me You have this way of drawing me into your books, I tend to eat the pages up and forget about everything around me.Thank you for bring us these wonderful real characters that we can relate to Advanced copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

4.75 stars just because I really wanted around what happened with Pam s son and why she felt she didn t pay enough attention to what was going on with him.3.5 for the audio on this one Brian Rodgers is great as Dino, but Lee LaShawn drops the rating for the audiobook I love her voice, but the pauses and the cadence of how she reads turned me off of her chapters I enjoyed actually reading this one .

Freya Barker has done it again She has woven a rich tapestry of words that draws the reader into the world she has created in her Portland, ME series She wraps up the reader in a cocoon of well written, tightly plotted words and emotions Still Air is the last book in this series and she appears to have saved the enigmas for last Both Pam and Dino have been supporting and supportive characters in the first three books, but their story is both heart wrenching and surprising Pam has always held her cards close to her vest She has always been there for the women of Portland, supporting and protecting them, when she herself was never given those things Her backstory is rich in heritage and heartache The loss she has suffered is life altering and touches the reader to their very soul She is a strong woman but while she s been caring for everyone else, she s not let anyone take care of her Dino, on the other hand, has had his hands full with his wife, her addiction, and her ultimate desertion, while trying to keep his children s lives on an even keel After his wife leaves, Dino finds out all of the damage that she and her addiction has done, mostly to their son, Jonas Dino struggles with being a single parent and is blindsided by the actions of his son Keeping his eye on Jonas, allows his young daughter to begin to slip away also Pam and Dino have had an apparent love hate relationship in the previous books When Pam finds Jonas in the midst of a gang related crime, she realizes she must tell the boy s father Ultimately, the couple realizes that their previous animosity toward each other was simply a case of chemistry that they both denied Their journey together is full of loss, pain, passion, and love Lucky for them they have an amazing group of friends that are truly like family to support them. While Pam struggles with a tremendous loss, Dino seeks to find a balance between his children and the woman who holds his heart These characters may be the most passionate couple in the Portland, ME series They may be older and wiser, but the fire they spark in each other all consuming They are loving, sensual, and sizzling Ms Barker writes her characters from the heart Her books are character driven and full emotion and love While I m sad that this is the last book in this series, I m sure there are great stories to come from Ms Barker in the future.

I could never go wrong with Freya Barker s stories.Often times, I ve found the final installment to be somewhat of letdown to the series Anti climactic and disappointing, its sole purpose is to tie up loose ends and please the reader into believing the last person standing has finally attained their HEA But never with Ms Barker s books She does each segment equal justice In fact, I would go so far as to say that the last book to either of her series, is a culmination of their storiesStill Air is about Pam and Dino Pam has always had a significant role as both counselor and friend to the Portland ME heroines as well as all residents of Florence House Dino is the chef at The Skipper He s quiet yet observant and when he speaks, he s insightful The chemistry between these two is explosive, off the charts But what I thoroughly enjoyed were the scenes with Pam and Dino s son, Jonas. It was great to revisit with Gunnar and Syd, Viv and Ike, and Ruby and Tim Reading the complete collection, you develop a vested interest in the rest of the group Freya Barker makes you emotionally connect with each of her characters Not only do you feel through them, you live with them.

Once again, Freya Barker did not disappoint her fans As we read the first of the series, Pam was always a secondary character but I, for one, always wondered what her story was Now we know And it was amazing Who knew she had that much strength And then there s Dino WOW, who knew he had that side to him Where can I find me one of him I loved the book but am sad that it s the finale of the Portland, ME series But if I know Freya, I d bet she s got another series idea percolating in that fabulous brain of hers I ll be waiting

ERIN S REVIEW5 STARSOMG Dino and Pam This story blew me away and completely rocked my world Holy shit I knew that Pam and Dino would have amazing stories However, I was not fully prepared for just how emotional this story would be I am a huge fan of Freya s All of her stories are incredible They are full of emotion and real people They have flaws, they have drama in their lives, they are NOT PERFECT And I love them all They struggle with weight problems, low self esteem, health issues, and the drama of every day life They are very relatable and therefore the easiest characters to fall in love with Pam and Dino have explosive chemistry But they have a lot of obstacles in their separate lives They understand each other better than anyone else does I was hooked from the start and was on the edge of my seat waiting to see how their story would end I am sad to see this series is at an end I can t wait to see what the author has up her sleeve next LEEANN S REVIEW5 STARSPam and Dino have been with the Portland Crew from the very beginning but I guess you would say they were minor characters, but in a big way.Now it is their turn to tell their stories.Freya Barker has once again written a book that is full of emotion, angst some seriously steamy scenes.I think what I like about this series is the realistic expectations the characters have of themselves each other the real life problems they face. The other thing that really draws me to Ms Barkers book is that not all of her couples are young and fresh They are slightly older than your average romance characters and have bucket loads of life experience under their belts They are educated well informed These are things that make a huge difference in storylines and plots. And, as they say, it is the quiet ones you have got to watch Pam and Dino in their own ways keep themselves to themselves and up until now have been very quiet But, once they open up things change for them dramatically They realise that whilst they have been the ones supporting everyone else, they can also count on their friends to reciprocate that support. In saying all of that though, don t be fooled, the chemistry is there and it is sizzling hot and sensual and the 5 star story line will keep you hooked from start to finish.Worth getting your one click finger out for this one TRACY S REVIEW4 STARSIt s hard to help others when you yourself feeling like your drowning Do you give up when there are so many counting on your help Could two people who feel damaged find the strength they need in each other You know what I love about this author Her ability to create such strong female characters These heroines are the true epitome of what you want a character to be Have the strongest will and strength but yet are completely vulnerable And these woman seem to be in my head, whether they don t see what others see weight insecurities to Pam who believes that kissing a man is a full body experience I m sad to see this series ending but know that Freya Barker will continue to wow me with future characters.
